Illizi is a wilaya in the far southeast of Algeria. Law n° 19-12 of December 2019 created the wilaya of Djanet from part of Illizi, and presidential decree n° 21-117 of March 2021 gives it number 56. Djanet has its own page on Dalil.

UNESCO places the Tassili n'Ajjer, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982, in the wilayas of Illizi and Tamanghasset. It describes a vast plateau in south-east Algeria at the borders of Libya, Niger and Mali, with more than 15,000 drawings and engravings that record life on the edge of the Sahara from 6000 BC to the first centuries of the present era.

UNESCO says tourism in the Tassili n'Ajjer is strictly controlled and that groups of visitors are always accompanied by an official guide. France Diplomatie, the French foreign ministry travel advice, states that it is not possible to travel without a guide in the Algerian Sahara. It adds that travel agencies offer organised stays (page updated 15 September 2026).

Dalil lists agencies from public sources. Dalil has not checked their licences. Ask any agency for its licence number before you pay.
